Bernie School Dyslexia Screening Process

Implementation of Reading Program:

PreK-Apple Seed with fidelity

K-2nd grade-Connections OG in 3D-with fidelity-whole group and small group

3rd –Connections OG in 3D in small group with low reading-future plans to do this with both classes

4th-Connections OG in 3D in small group with low reading-after teacher trained this fall-may do both classes

Spelling in K-5-use Connections OG in 3D words not from Wonders series


Screenings:

KDG- will be screened mid-year and end-of-year

1st-3rd - will be screened beginning, middle, and end-of-year


Plan for students that fail both screenings:

ALL Elementary Students that fail these screeners will be placed in the white reading rooms where they may receive the following accommodations (given in the regular ed. classroom):

  1. ConnectionsOG in 3D in small group

  2. No read aloud except in small group

  3. Extra time to complete tasks

  4. When teaching note taking skills, provided notes where student fills in blanks(Guided notes)

  5. Technology as needed

  6. After school tutoring

Jr High/HS students that take the CTOPP and fail may receive the following accommodations in the regular education classrooms:

  1. No oral reading in whole group class-may read aloud to the teacher

  2. Extra time to complete tasks

  3. Get notes from teacher lectures or guided notes

  4. Technology as needed

  5. After school tutoring


Further concerns?

  1. Parents requesting a 504 plan must have a Legal Diagnosis (at parent’s expense)

    1. with supporting documentation of diagnosis

    2. diagnosis must be from a certified person

  2. Students must first be tested for special education services and NOT qualify before given a 504 plan.

    1. District evaluation must corroborate with the diagnosis
