The BFG and Sophie have convinced the queen to send the army and the air force to capture the man-eating giants. They are about to deploy soldiers and “bellypoppers” (helicopters) to capture the giants and bring them back to England. This is where we left off today.
Your assignment: Imagine a conclusion to THE BFG. What do you think will happen to the BFG, Sophie and the man-eating giants? Write a paragraph of 3-5 sentences detailing your ideas for the conclusion. Send your paragraph to Ms. Citrin at rcitrin@bernardzell.org.

While we are all sheltering in place, there are many things we are not able to do. I'd like you to respond to this prompt: "If I could do anything right now, I would..."

*new* For this week, please listen to Part II of The BFG, pgs. 68-98.
Writing prompt for THE BFG, pages 68-98:
The BFG’s work is finding dreams and sharing them with children. In the pages you just heard, he found a phizzwizard (fabulously wonderful dream) and a trogglehumper (nightmare). Write 3-5 sentences describing either a phizzwizard or trogglehumper you have had or you imagine. Send your dreams to Ms. Citrin at rcitrin@bernardzell.org.
Here are two very silly poems for Poem in Your Pocket Day! Dentists and crocodiles don't mix, or do they?
Dogs and poetry do mix! Check out my dog's reaction to this very charming poem by Shel Silverstein for Poem in Your Pocket Day!
Please listen to the next installment of The BFG. I know that a few of you listened to this section (pgs. 51-68) over break, but most of you did not. You do not want to miss these chapters. They are among the most dramatic and funny chapters in the book (scroll down for this video marked "The BFG, pgs. 51-68").
You have two assignments this week:
We are all sheltering in place right now. Some of us like where we are, while some of us would gladly choose another locale. After you listen to this part of The BFG, write three to five sentences about what literary setting you would choose to shelter in place in, if you could. For example, would you like to stay in the BFG’s cave where you could have all the frobscottle you can drink, or would you rather spend your time with Opal Buloni from Because of Winn-Dixie? Think about a book character or setting where you would like to shelter in place. Send your paragraph to Ms. Citrin at rcitrin@bernardzell.org.
Make your own COVID-19 artifact. Print out MY 2020 COVID-19 TIME CAPSULE. It is 11 pages, and can be accessed here. This document was created by Canadian Natalie Long of Long Creations.
We are all living through BIG HISTORY right now. YOUR activities, YOUR thoughts, and YOUR feelings are very important to remember. While you may think that you will never forget this time, memories fade as time passes. And be assured that this challenging time will pass. I would like you to complete this document over the next few weeks. It is intended for you and your family only. Parents--please save your child’s completed 2020 COVID-19 TIME CAPSULE in a safe place. It will become an important personal artifact that reflects details of your personal COVID-19 experience.

The BFG (week 3)
On the left is the first example of an artifact label of a real family heirloom: a tablecloth crocheted by my grandmother in Turkey before she came to this country.
Here is a second example of a made-up artifact label for the BFG's trumpet.
Assignment Number 3: MAKE AN ARTIFACT LABEL
When you go to a museum, have you noticed the little signs next to objects explaining what they are? These are called ARTIFACT LABELS, and museum curators (people who put exhibits together) write them. An artifact label tells us important facts, including what the object is, when it is from, where it is from, and what it is made of.
TO DO:
Choose a family artifact. It can be a religious object, a souvenir from a trip, a photo, or anything. Conduct an interview with a relative or yourself to learn about it.
Here are some questions to ask:
What is the object?
Where is the object from?
When was it made?
What is it made of?
Why is it important to you or your family? Tell the story of your artifact.
Complete the attached Artifact Label Worksheet. Use the worksheet linked here.
Take a picture of your completed Artifact Label Worksheet, and email it to Ms. Citrin at rcitrin@bernardzell.org and I will share them with everyone after our Pesach break.
