Jazz Band

The Ridge Jazz Band rehearses Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 and performs 3-4 concerts per year.   The band is modeled after the Count Basie style big band and performs a varied repertoire of jazz styles including swing, funk, latin and rock.   Standard instrumentation is 2 alto saxes, 2 tenor saxes, 1 bari sax, 4-5 trumpets, 4-5 trombones, piano, guitar, bass, drums.  Additional instruments/vocalists may be used as needed.  Students will also have the opportunity to learn the art of improvisation. Acceptance is by audition held at the beginning of each school year.  We often form a second ensemble or larger band to accommodate more students and prepare younger students for the advanced jazz ensemble.  Private lessons with a focus on jazz are strongly encouraged.
