Throughout this year we will be exploring and seeking to understand life science in order to become more responsible citizens and stewards of our planet. The following list reviews some of the topics studied this year:
We will use a variety of resources and projects this year to help us with our understanding of life science. I am most excited to introduce our Trout in the Classroom project this year. We will be partnering with Adams County's Water Conservation District to raise fingerling trout from eggs in our classroom throughout the year which will be released locally on a special day in the spring. This is an exciting opportunity for our classroom!
We will also participate in an independent science project this year which is an opportunity for students to showcase their skills and understanding of how to conduct reliable science in an area of their choice-- science can be anything and everything! Most people fear the dreaded science project, but it is a fabulous learning experience which allows students to grow in their understanding of science throughout the process. Participation also provides opportunities to compete, receive exposure, and network within our local, regional, and potentially national community. Many students have gained valuable skills and experiences, collected rewards, money, and more. Be open-minded at the possibilities, and look to get the most out of this project!
