Career Development &
Work-Based Learning
It is not about "deciding what you want to be when you grow up," but rather engaging in experiences and research that will clarify a pathway toward a fulfilling career after graduation. Whether your path includes direct employment, the military, a CT registered apprenticeship, a career training school, community college or four year college, it is critical that you identify the next steps of building a career that fits with your interests and abilities.
Students and families should become familiar with activities and events that are an integral part of the career development experience. All students should be actively engaging in activities that cultivate career awareness, exploration and experience. While there is no set order of steps in this process, it typically involves a progression from awareness to exploration to experience. Berlin High School utilizes multiple channels of information to advertise these opportunities: BHS Workbased Learning Instagram; School Counseling Instagram; Schoology posts; Student Emails; PowerSchool announcements and classroom teacher announcements.
Career Awareness
Career Awareness encompasses a variety of opportunities in which students engage that expose them to multiple career clusters and paths. Some examples are:
