I Love New York City
It is the place of dreams,
Where people are jolly during the holiday season,
And everyone seems to have a beat of reason,
You never realize of the city is so pretty,
When the Rockefeller lights start to glisten.

The Road Not Paved
The road not paved
The road overlooked,
People prefer the green lights and stop signs
People prefer the traffic, and being surrounded by cars
People forget there are my roads
Not paved
But they get you to the same place
The common question in highschool,
What college are you going to?
The pressure to conform,
The pressure to take the busy road,
Rather than the quick issueless track

White Flag
A child holds his hands up like a white flag,
Not for defeat, for fear of pain
Not wanting his head rattled like a bug in a jar,
Surrender the only option,
Sorry, the only words left
Hands are the only thing he can think of,
Flying hands, up and down at him
Hiding his face in them,
His face feeling them as they come down.
Sting, when he wants aid
Itch and scratch,
All he wants is love and care.
Too much fear for that,
Too much tears for love,
Too much torn for care,
Too much scorn to be protected by their hands.
Hands raise
His body jerks away as they fall
The question needs answered
Will he ever learn care from the ones that do fall?
Or will he raise his hands again
To raise a weapon and not a flag.

Insomnia
The lack of sleep makes me lose track of time
At night when I think I can never count the sheep
I always find ways to lose track of time
I wish I could rest in the confines of my mind
The loss of sleep makes me lose peace of mind
Even when I wake up I try and find more rest
By lying in bed resting wide awake

My Babcia’s Words
My babcia’s words
carry history in every sentence.
Her expressions are perfectly pieced together, like puzzle pieces that fit just right.
Her words are tradition—
like bread made from scratch,
like a memory that never fades.
I hear love in her voice,
her words sewn into every lesson taught. I hear laughter throughout the room, that doesn’t need an explanation.
My babcia’s voice
is not a mistold story.
It is living proof
that lessons are created from experience, passed down
one word at a time.
-Kaley Alkas
I am where the sun shines standing still on the edge of a cliff
I wonder when the sun sets will I drift?
I hear how the sun rises, so silent yet roaring
I see who the sun resembles
I want constant radiance it will refuel me
I pretend to know the sun, my dearest friend
I feel its warmth, kindness, and fiery nature
I touch the air particles reaching out for heat in desperation
I worry when the day will arrive that my light disappears and I am left in darkness
I dream the sun will never leave
I understand seasons will change, in nature and in life
I hope my last sight is the sun

E- Foil Board
The board lifted out of the water
I flew in the air like Harry Potter
Cruising across the lake like an otter
I held the trigger,
The faster the better I figure
As I sped up, the waves behind me got bigger
The air was cool on my face
I felt as if I was in a race
Moving atop the water with such grace
-Sawyer Eberhardt
Summer time you feel alive,
Awake all night and day
Spring time you start to thrive,
Enjoying sunny days
Fall time the sun starts to lose the shine,
Leaves fall and crumble
Winter time the roads are ice,
A hot cocoa is very nice
-Collin Sullivan
