Mark of the Unicorn (MOTU) is a Cambridge Massachusetts based company. MOTU's flagship Digital Audio Workstation software "Digital Performer" is adept at handling both MIDI and Audio. However a brief look into Digital Performer's history reveals a strong basis upon a firm understanding of MIDI. Digital Performer is a great tool for electronic musicians and composers to understand and use a "hands-on" approach to learning and applying signal flow and digital signal processing. While its individual virtues are often compared to Cubase, Logic, or Pro Tools; the software's true strength lies in its versatility. While the learning curve is admittedly a bit steeper than some of the other more readily accessible DAW's, Digital Performer's fundamental capabilities are a worthy investment for any modern musician or engineer interested in music technology. The skills and technical procedural understanding that Digital Performer incorporates into its User Interface will undoubtedly enhance the operator's understanding and in turn improve her/his workflow productivity in any and all DAW's thereafter.
