The Obon Buddhist Summer festival is when the spirit of the dead are believed to return to their homes. As a part of this celebration, people do bon odori at night: dancing around a yagura tower to music. The lively festival music uses taiko and has come to be known as bondaiko. This song is based on the rhythms that appeared in the Obon festivals of Tokyo, thought to have been originally brought over by Seiichi Tanaka of San Francisco Taiko Dojo.
