Homework 1:
Become comfortable with the hitting form. Right and Left hand at home on pillow.
For the right hand, focus on small hits for the right hand
For the left hand, focus on small hits for left hand
Spin the bachi parallel to your arm towards yourself (outside, backwards) without bending your arm. Check out this youtube video for more details! Lets focus on the outside-backwards bachi twirl.
You are (and should!) twist your arm and wrist to make sure the bachi is spinning parallel to your arm.
Make sure the bachi is tight to the web between your pointer finger and thumb. Otherwise, this is virtually impossible.

Not much is written about the Taiko style from Hachijo. The best information are interviews of Hachijo Islanders and how they interact with the music! Here's an example of one here.
