NMS Library Policies

Check-out policy

Students and staff are encouraged to check out any books, ebooks, and audio books from the library that you would like. Students may check out 2 books at a time for a loan period of 2 weeks. If you are uncomfortable with a book you have checked out, please return it and choose something else. We have a variety of books available and not all students may be comfortable borrowing everything we have. It is up to you to choose books that are appropriate for you according to your preferences and those of your own family and culture.

Student Book Suggestions
Looking for a specific book that the NMS Library doesn't have? This could be a fiction or non-fiction book or maybe a book about a certain topic you're interested in. Make sure we don't already own the book by looking on Destiny or Sora, then complete the attached form and I'll see if it's possible to buy it. It can take a long time to get books but I will try. You can also look for the book at the Northlake Public Library through Sora. They might have it there instead as an EBook or audio book.

Putting a Book on Hold
Destiny has a way to put a book on hold. When you put a book on hold, that means that when the book is returned, it will go to the next person on the hold list.

Overdue item policy

Return your books as soon as you are done with them so other students can enjoy the books. We do not charge any fines for overdue books, but we will continue to remind you about any overdue books with a notice. If you have a book that is over two months overdue, you will be asked to pay to replace the book.

Lost or damaged books

If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair or use, we may ask a student to pay for it. If you need to pay for a lost or damaged book, come talk to us. If you check out a book and see that it is damaged already it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to let us know before you check out the book. Any damage that is seen after you check out a book will be assumed to be caused by you and you may have to pay to replace the book. If you have any questions about this please ask!

Renewal Policy

Students may renew a book 3 times for a total of 6 weeks. Bring the book into the library to review it. If you still need to keep a book after that time, please come and talk to Mrs. Carteño or Dr. Hirose.
