Science: A Closer Look

This year the BUSD science team is supporting families by teaching thematic science units differentiated across grade levels so that families can better support all of the young scientists in their home. We want science to be accessible and for all students to feel successful.

Our first unit is “What do scientists and Engineers do?”. Then we will be focusing on the Next Generation Science Standards and a different cross-cutting concept for each unit. A cross-cutting concept is an idea that applies across all science disciplines and many other curricular areas for example when we study the weather we will be focusing on weather patterns. Patterns can apply to math, literature, art, and PE. When we're done with weather we're going to be moving on to the cross-cutting concept of stability and change while focusing on landforms and then by December we'll be doing scale, proportion, and quantity while looking at micro to macro measurements.

With great science comes great responsibility.

There are so many opportunities for wacky science fun.

Lots of resources for science information in here, too!

Go nuts and be a part of something big! Citizen Science is a great way for students to learn about different research projects, collect data, and contribute to large science projects.
