Friends, makers, collaborators:
Thank you so much for your incredible collective generosity. With your support, we raised $3,350 for building furniture in Longfellow’s developing makerspace. Your gifts are leaving a lasting legacy, both in the handmade work tables we built as well as in the woodworking tools we obtained that our students will use for years to come.
At Longfellow, we have had a few “Saturday Academies” each school year for students and parents to learn and build community together. Past Saturday academies have included a shark dissection, a community learning exchange on creating a safe/sanctuary school, and math games.
This year’s first Saturday academy was table-building! On Saturday, September 23, over 35 parents, students, and other community members came together and built tables. We only made one mistake: We set out to build twelve tables, and we built thirteen - a baker’s dozen, I suppose! Check out a few pictures from the event: http://www.longfellowberkeley.org/makerspace-news.
During this school year and future school years, our makerspace will continue to expand and offer students opportunities to apply their science and math learning in hands-on projects. If you’d like to be part of our project, or if you’d just like to hear about what’s going on, join our Google group at https://groups.google.com/a/berkeley.net/d/forum/longfellow-makerspace.
Our makerspace is off to a great start thanks to your generosity - we really appreciate your support!
Thanks,
Matt Hinckley
