Where are the EV Chargers located?

  • UC Berkeley: RSF Parking Lot

  • UCSD: 6th Floor of the Olser Parking Lot (no longer available)

How can I start charging my car?

Who can participate in this project?

  • UCB Participants: Faculty, Student or Staff with a PEV and a parking pass for RSF Parking lot

  • UCSD Participants: Own a PEV and have access to any of A, B, S, V parking passes which allow access to Osler Lot

  • SunPower: Be an Employee of SunPower who owns an EV

What can I do if all charging spots are busy?

You can monitor charging station occupancy on THIS WEBSITE. On this site you can see if there are any available plugs.

  • If the plug number shows green and connected, it means there is a vehicle currently connected to the plug.

  • If the plug number indicates ‘disconnected’ that means the plug is not being used.

How do I pay for charging?

When you register your car for the first time, then you will be asked for a payment method.

Can I use my Tesla adapter on your charger?

Yes, you can! It is compatible with our chargers!

How will I know that my charging session is nearly completed?

You can check the charging status at http://www.slrpev.com/ where you started your charging session.

What kinds of information will be collected?

When you register, then we will request:

  • Your name

  • Phone number

  • Email

  • Vehicle Make & Model

  • License Plate Number

  • Payment info, which is processed by Stripe and not accessible to the researchers

When you charge, then we will collect:

  • Charging and connection start/end times

  • Power delivered

  • Your charging service choice

Will this injure my battery or shorten its life?

The impact on battery life is no different than charging at home or another public charging station with Level 2 (i.e. 6.6 kW) power.

Will I have a full charge when I am ready to depart?

You can select how many miles of range to add and the departure time. NOTE: Please refer to your vehicle owner's manual for recommendations on setting your charging limit.

Is this program open to Plug in hybrid electrics?

Yes, you're more than welcome to come aboard!

I don't want to fully charge my car. Do I have to take a full charge?

No, you do not need to take a full charge! Before you start charging, you will have the option of selecting the added range in miles you need.

What is the allowable dwell time? When will I be charged for overstay?

When you start the charging service, you will have a planned departure time and your vehicle will be charged by that time. After that departure time, you will incur a fee per minute of overstay. To avoid overstay fees, you will have to move your car at the departure time.

When will I learn of the two different prices being offered?

Refer to Pricing for the charging options and prices.

How frequently will you be changing your prices?

Participants will be notified of pricing changes by email. Also, you may check the current pricing policy on the Pricing webpage.

How is this good for the environment?

Flexible charging allows us to reduce peak loads on the grid, thus reducing usage of natural gas "peaker" power plants. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions. There is also reduced curtailment of solar / wind at times when there is more clean energy being generated than needed.
