Berkeley Clinical Myopia Team

We are clinician researchers specialized in myopia.

We provide evidence-based patient services to myopic children to correct their vision, and to slow the progression of myopia to reduce the risks of potentially blinding complications.

The focus of our research is refractive development and myopia (nearsightedness).

With the unique combination of ample clinical experiences, solid research training, and advanced research tools and instruments, we have the advantage of offering training and education programs.

We want to understand everything about myopia

What aspects of visual experience and associated retinal images underlie myopia?

Is it possible to inhibit myopic growth optically and pharmacologically in ways that are safe and effective in children?

What are the impacts from visual behavior in the development of myopia and what is the most effective visual hygiene strategy?

Why are some individuals more susceptible than others and develop myopia at much younger age, i.e. the individual variability in myopia development and response to treatments?

Can we predict the onset of myopia and its pattern of progression with relatively simple biometric variables?

Come and learn with us!

To students, residents, and ODs, we offer workshops and continuing education that have a good balance between in-depth scientific knowledge and how to implement up-to-date research clinically in myopia management.
