Cities are home both to people (and their companion animals) and wildlife. Some human-animal conflict is inevitable, especially as the number of people and related urban activities grow. Including K-12 curricula about urban habitat and rewilding can build knowledge and awareness, as well as an ethic of human-animal coexistence.
Rewilding Education Lesson Plans based on the Next Generation Science Standards for California Public Schools are included below, targeted to students in Elementary School: Grades 1-5. These lesson plans focus specifically on making use of the rewilded site, particularly as there is a school, Bahia Vista Elementary School, near our northernmost site, which we hope will support and encourage educators to bring their lessons outdoors.
