Protecting others from linguistic discrimination through language solidarity
- In small groups, discuss the concept of “linguistic discrimination”; then write down your own short description of the term.
- Now discuss the concept of “language solidarity” and write down your own short description of the term.
- Have you ever been the victim of linguistic discrimination? If so, and you feel comfortable, share answers to the following questions: What happened? When? If not, do you know somebody (personally or otherwise) who has suffered linguistic discrimination? Describe the situation to the members of your group.
- What would you do if you were to witness linguistic discrimination in your community? Make a list of three concrete measures that you would exercise in the event of this occurrence.
- Each member of the group takes turns to describe points 1-4 to the rest of the class.
