Hello All!!
Welcome to the Intro to Cooking DeCal!! We're so excited you all decided to take this course with us and we hope we can make your time in our course as stress-free and enjoyable as possible!
Our goal is to give you the skills you need to be able to follow a recipe like a pro if you don't already, AND to be able to cook some easy, classic meals without a recipe! Because having fun in the kitchen is ultimately what is going to help make the healthy, money-saving lifestyle changes we all want for ourselves! Plus, who would say no to having the skills necessary to impress that special someone ;)
Ok, onto the action items you need to take care of as of right now:
I'm assuming if you're seeing this, you've already enrolled through Cal Central, but if you haven't already, please do so!
The weekly readings can be found in the Lessons and Labs tabs. Assignments will be released and submitted on bCourses weekly.
There will be 2 assignments per week:
The first is labelled "Lesson" which is more theoretical. To get credit for this portion, do the reading and answer the question set on bCourses.
You are allowed to miss 2 lesson assignments. If you turn in any lesson assignments late, please email meganyip@berkeley.edu. You will write a 300-500 word paper on a certain technique/topic you learned that week! Once you have completed the lesson quiz late and the paper is sent to Megan, we will give you full credit for your missed assignment.
The second assignment is labelled "Lab" where we will teach you about actual cooking skills. To get credit for this one, you just submit YOUR OWN photo of something YOU cooked that week which utilized the skills taught in the Lab reading, along with a 100-word write-up detailing what you cooked and how you incorporated the skill!
You are allowed to miss 2 lab assignments. If you miss more than 2 labs, and cannot cook on a given week, please email amaxafifi@berkeley.edu. You will write a 500 word paper where you will find a recipe either on the internet/in a book OR you can make up your own, of course, and explain the recipe and how you would apply the techniques you learned in the lab reading for that week! This make-up assignment can be found on bCourses.
The assignments for each week (starting this Monday, 9/6) will be released on Mondays at 8am and will be due by 11:59pm on the following Sunday. Late work is not accepted unless both the make-up assignment and late assignment are completed.
Please complete this Entrance Survey. It's mandatory and you will not pass the course if you do not complete all 3 surveys released throughout the semester.
