Testing and Evaluation

Testing Plan:

Fishbone or Ishikawa Diagrams, are a common method to comprehensively analyze manufacturing processes to determine root cause failure and quality/testing requirements to determine the efficacy of our process. For our DFM project we will analyze the following 5 Ms: Man, Machine, Material, Method and Measurement.

Man Power:

The main requirements for the Man category is that the user should be able to easily, quickly and safely place the blank in the machine and perform the heading operation.

Machine:

The main requirements for the machine is that the appropriate force is applied to form the head, machine stiffness and rigidity and bolt ejection.

Material:

For the purposes of our Project, since we are using plasticine, we are not too concerned about the quality or specifications of our raw materials however some basic tests include the following.

Method:

Given our heading process, it is important that the three major processes (billet feeding, heading and ejection) work as specified.

Measurement:

The measurement tests ensure that all components of our machine are dimensionally accurate and any sensors or actuators are reading/writing data accurately.

Success Criteria:

We will determine the success of our project based on 3 metrics that line up with the project requirements and our personal goals.
