Heading Machine | ME 122 | MF 6

What is heading?

Heading is a metal forming manufacturing process typically used to increase mass at the end of a metal billet. It is one of the most common manufacturing techniques for creating a variety of fasteners. We are a team of four mechanical engineers at Berkeley creating and prototyping a continously fed heading machine, which has the potential to increase speed and lower cost in the industry. In this website, you can explore all aspects of the development of our machine.

Here is how a typical heading machine works, and a render of our prototype.
