DREAM Summer Seminar

Thank you for participating!!!!

Welcome to the DREAM Summer Seminar 2022 for the UC Berkeley School of Public Health!

The DREAM (Diversity, Respect, Equity, Action, Multiculturalism) Office is excited for you to join us in a week of making connections, learning, and getting to know the community. We’ll have meetings with various offices in the School of Public Health, connect you with faculty and staff, presentations to introduce you to course content, and have opportunities to build community with your peers!

On this website, you can find our schedule, logistical information such as parking and what to wear, biographies of our presenters, and more. If you have questions, please contact the DREAM Office (sphdiversity@berkeley.edu)!

FAQ

What should I wear?

There are no attire requirements for Summer Seminar; please wear clothing that is comfortable for you. Consider that most of the seminar will be indoors, the weather, and that there will be some walking around campus (we recommend wearing comfortable shoes!).

Daily high temperatures in August in Berkeley are around 75°F, rarely falling below 68°F or exceeding 84°F. Mornings are cooler and often start with an overcast sky that clears up by the afternoon time. Because of this, we recommend bringing layers of clothing!

What should I bring?

We will provide a notebook, pen, and folder on the first day of Summer Seminar. Please bring your laptop fully charged everyday along with your lap top charger and any other instruments that you will need to take notes!

On your first day please bring a form of Identification (anything with your name on it).

Should I drive, bus or BART?

If you are able to and comfortable, we recommend taking the Public Transportation of your choice to attend Summer Seminar. You can use apps such as moovit, transit, or google maps to find the best route from where you will be staying. Otherwise, you can find directions and parking information on the parking and transportation page.

If I drive, where do I park?

See our parking and transportation page!

Please be aware that other orientations and programming will be happening on-campus and parking will be limited.

Nearby hotels for family?

Please check out the local lodging page for “preferred” and additional off-campus accommodations (scroll to about halfway down the page for a list of nearby hotels): https://travel.berkeley.edu/book-trip/book-lodging-reservation/local-lodging-options

Should I wear a mask? Other precautions against COVID?

Official mask guidelines for UC Berkeley are as follows:

  • Masks are strongly recommended, but not required, indoors — regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.

  • (Masks are required during flu season if not vaccinated for flu.)

  • Outdoors, masks are optional for everyone.

We will plan to social distance as much as possible throughout the seminar days and encourage participants to test regularly throughout.

How large is the cohort? What is the curriculum/schedule? Is there any cost?

The Summer Seminar Cohort is 45 students strong! Check out our "schedule" page for info on what the week will bring. Unless you have notified us in advance, we will expect you to attend every day! Please let us know if something prevents you from attending in full. There is NO COST to any part of Summer Seminar.
