This project is a collaborative effort between the 2023 University of California, Berkeley Transportation Studio and Link 21 examining shared rail corridors and how passenger agencies and freight railroads make the most of existing rail corridors in the Bay Area as well as nationwide and make a better case for new ones to improve the communities they operate in.
Using a multitude of resources, including various plans, annual reports, shared use agreements, grant applications, and congressional testimony as well as a series of nine interviews with people from passenger agencies at the local, regional, and state levels, freight railroads, and academics and community members, key considerations and recommendations were developed.
This website will highlight the research and insights gained from this semester long project.
