Part 1: Developing Chamber Set-Up

The answer to the previous question was Plate 1C. It is important that your spots be small, evenly spaced, and not too close to the edges of the plate.

Before you can develop your first TLC plate, you will need to prepare your developing chamber. Add 10 mL of your first solvent (10:10:1 toluene : ethyl acetate : acetic acid) to a 150-mL beaker fitted with filter paper as shown in the TLC section of your textbook, then cover the top of the beaker with aluminum foil.
