About The Challenge
Cal Athletics is dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by connecting student-athletes with young readers as reading role models. Building on the success of the student-athlete–led Cal Football Summer Reading Challenge, this year-round initiative (Fall, Winter, Spring) emphasizes the importance of literacy through direct service and engaging incentives.

Young students are encouraged to complete reading logs for the chance to earn tickets to Cal Athletics events, making reading both rewarding and fun while strengthening the bond between academics and athletics.

Rules of The Challenge
Reading Challenge by Grade Level:
1st & 2nd Grade: Read 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week, and log your 3 favorite books in the Reading Journal
3rd-5th Grade: Read 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week, and log your 3 favorite books in the Reading Journal
6th - 8th Grade: Read 5 chapter books and log your 5 favorite chapter books in the Reading Journal
Timeline:
Spring : Read and fill out the Reading Journal (access above)*
May 2nd: Deadline for electronic submission & ticket redemption for Cal tickets.
May 3rd: Cheer on the Bears at Stu Gordon !

Getting to Haas Pavillion
Haas Pavillion is located at 115 Haas Pavilion, Berkeley, CA 94720
Food - Fans are permitted to bring their own food and drink (non alcoholic) into the game and concessions are also available for purchase within Haas Pavillion. Haas Pavillion is a cashless venue and only accepts debit and credit cards for purchases.
Haas Pavillion has a strict bag clear policy for competitions. Items permitted and not permitted in Haas Pavillion, as well as game day policies can be located here.
