Director: Tommaso Bernardini
Tommaso is a PhD candidate in Classics at UC Berkeley, specializing in the Latin literature of Late Antiquity. His dissertation reads some of that period's radical formal experiments — including collage poetry (centones), picture-poems (carmina cancellata), ascetic Christian hymns, and lipogrammatic history — in economic terms.
At Berkeley, Tommaso teaches Latin and leads discussion sections on Greek and Roman literature. This will be his fourth summer with the Latin Workshop.
