Code of Conduct

Goals

In order to create a welcoming and inclusive space that encourages engagement, collaboration, and sharing of ideas, the LD4 Conference has adopted this Code of Conduct, and requires that anyone participating in the conference adhere to it.

The conference aspires to be a space where everyone feels comfortable participating, even if they do not use specialized terminology or express their ideas or knowledge perfectly, and a space where we uplift each other’s work and ideas.

This code of conduct aims to ensure that all participants feel respected, safe, and welcome at the conference, regardless of ability, age, background, gender and gender identity or expression, native language, citizenship status, race and ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or any other characteristic or dimension of identity.

Conduct expectations

The LD4 Conference does not tolerate discrimination based on the above characteristics, nor do we tolerate harassment of any kind, including but not limited to:

  • Sustained disruption of discussion;

  • Stalking, following or continued one-on-one communications after being asked to cease;

  • Deliberate sharing of personal or private information about a person, or images or recordings of a person, without their consent;

  • Unwanted sexual attention or sexual innuendo;

  • Bullying, trolling, violence, threats of violence, inciting violence, deliberate intimidation, or personal attacks.

How to report an issue

During the conference we used an anonymous web form for reporting any violation of the Code of Conduct.

Issue resolution

Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. Anyone who violates the LD4 Conference Code of Conduct may be asked to immediately leave a conference session, and may be prohibited from speaking at, participating in, or assisting with the remainder of the conference. Session facilitators and moderators are empowered to remove participants from a session immediately if there is an issue. Other sanctions may include early termination of a presentation that violates the Code of Conduct, and not publishing the video or slides of a presentation that violates the Code of Conduct.

Revision history

The LD4 Conference Code of Conduct was revised in July 2021 to apply specifically to the LD4 Conference, and is based on the LD4P Community Participation Guidelines.
