Water pollution can deeply affect ocean society. It can kill turtles because they eat plastic bags thinking that the plastic bags were a jellyfish. Also, marine animals and plants can die due to insufficiency of oxygen. Not only are marine species are affected, we humans can also be harmed as well as land animals and birds because the water can be contaminated.
The cause of water pollution has many factors but mainly from industrial waste, sewage, wastewater, and the burning of fossil fuels. When fossil fuels are burned, they release nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere which causes smog.
Overfishing is obviously caused by we humans. Because fish is part of main ingredient and food to eat, people fish a lot. There are numerous kind of skills developed to catch as many fish as possible efficiently (like the picture on the left.) But this can bring the number of fish down and may even make the fish extinct at some point in the future.
Overfishing can affect the food-web structure. As we humans catch fish to eat, the number of fish can decrease sharply depending on the period but when the number decrease, the food-web may slow down or stop if the fish was key species.
Destruction of coral reefs is evidently caused by human activities. Human activities can bring such a huge impact on any biome but in coral reefs, coral mining is one of the purposes of destroying corals.
