Who is your program for? The Transition Center @ Wood-Ridge serves students with special needs who have documented cognitive delays in need of a program focused on life skills and functional academics. We are a community-based program and much of our learning takes place in the real world outside of the physical classroom. Students are involved in community-based instruction, community partnerships, and group internships to gain important skills they will take with them to their post-school lives. Our goal is to maximize each student's skills so they can live their adult lives as independently as possible.
Which disabilities do you serve? We serve a wide-range of disabilities. Most of our students are classified under the category "multiply disabled" and have a documented cognitive delay.
Do you offer related services? Yes! Students at the Transition Center receive related services as determined in their IEP. We offer speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and counseling. Additionally, we offer educational interpreters, teacher of the deaf services, and educational audiologist services for students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing. We partner with Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired when a student's needs require these outside services.
Do students at the Transition Center take art/music/physical education class? Yes! Our students have all three specials classes in their weekly schedule. Our students are also encourage to join our Art, Gym, and Band clubs where they take part in additional activities with our teachers and their peers.
