Windsor Dutton currently teaches pre-AP Spanish 4, IB (International Baccalaureate) Spanish 4, and AP (Advanced Placement) Spanish 5. He also sponsors the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society) and co-sponsors the BHS club de español (Spanish Club). Profe Dutton also oversees the Seal of Biliteracy for BHS.
Señor Dutton began developing a passion for the Spanish language while growing up in the Hispanic American community of San Antonio, TX. He later studied Spanish formally through school and earned a bachelors degree in Spanish and in vocal music, and a master’s degree in secondary foreign language education through the University of Arkansas. While working for almost two decades in the restaurant industry, he worked as a translator and interpreter. He was also sent all across the country to train new employees.
He considers Panama his Latin American home base, having spent significant time living there and making return visits. He has also spent time in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Peru, along with several other countries around the world. He has taught Spanish privately for over 15 years, and is beginning his 10th year teaching at BHS!
Sr. Dutton's mother emigrated from Europe to Canada, and later to the US. As a first generation American, he has a passion for understanding and connecting with people through language, culture, and travel. In addition to Spanish, he has also studied Italian and Mandarin Chinese. Profe Dutton feels that being multilingual has opened up many doors in his life and enriched him greatly through travel and encountering new people and cultures. He believes deeply in the importance of language-learning and loves to share his knowledge of Spanish with others. He raises his children bilingually (OPOL). One of his favorite quotes is, “Learning a second language gives you a second soul.”
Embedded above is my presentation for students about all the ways Spanish has enriched my life. The text is in Spanish, but anyone can get an idea of what is being expressed even without understanding all the Spanish.
