Building a Thinking Classroom

Bark of the Week is a positive reward system for students who go above and beyond inside and outside the classroom.

Students will have the birthday sign lit up on their birthdays, a fun chair cover, a birthday bag, and a crown. Students deserve to have a fun birthday!! They will also receive a birthday book written by classmates and a birthday coloring mat.

This board displaces the classrooms 'I can' statements to recognize what they are learning and where they are going.

The "work work" wall allows students to show off their accomplishments.

The library has a LARGE variety of books for students to find their favorites easily. There are books that are occasionally switched out for holidays and events.

In the classroom, we need to feel like a family so we have the confidence to take risks, make mistakes, and try new things. This activity tied in with the book "Where Oliver Fits."

Our classroom is full of flexible seating. This seating allows the students to rock, bounce, or lean-to increase brain oxygen and enhance learning. It has a positive impact on performance and behaviors.

The students did a team-building activity called Saving Fred. In this activity, they devised a plan to save Fred the gummy worm. As Fred fell out of his boat without his life jacket, they had to figure out how to get him into the life-saving life preserver. They were not allowed to poke or touch Fred or his floating objects.
