Cross country is an eight week season beginning in September and ending in October. At practice, athletes may run anywhere from one to four miles. Practices will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Practice will begin immediately after school at 4pm (meeting at Skyline Park across from the Cascade parking lot) and end by 5:15, so please plan on picking up your child NO LATER than 5:20. There will be no adult supervision after practice.
During practice, students should store school belongings in their locker. Large items (like instruments) can be kept in Coach Morris' classroom. Athletes will be able to pick these up after practice to take home.
There will be NO practice on Wednesdays. However, it is recommended that athletes exercise (run, walk, bike, etc) for 20-30 minutes on Wednesdays.
XC MEET ELIGIBILITY - The following will be taken into consideration when determining an athlete’s eligibility to participate in XC meets:
REGULAR ATTENDANCE and being ON TIME for all practices.
If an athlete is going to miss practice, a note from a parent/guardian is required to excuse the absence or it will be considered an unexcused absence. All athletes will need to be at practice until 5:15pm or it will be considered a missed practice unless previous communication with coach has been made. A parent email prior to practice day is preferred for an excused absence. If an athlete is injured, they are not to attend practice for that day. Students must be in attendance at school all day to participate in any school-sponsored activity including athletics. The only exception to this OSAA (Oregon School Activities Association) rule is for a doctor or dentist appointment.
***We require athletes to attend at least two practices a week (not including meet days) to be eligible to run in meets. We have many athletes who participate in more than one fall sport. However, those who are committed to XC find a way to meet this requirement, which often means restricting themselves to only 1 additional fall sport. It is important that we stay consistent on this policy not only to ensure equity for all participants, but also for the strength of our team.***
EFFORT, positive attitude and sportsmanship throughout the season.
Positive behavior towards teammates, coaches and opponents is expected at all times. The parents/guardians of an athlete who cannot meet these expectations will be contacted.
WANT TO HELP OUT AT PRACTICE?
With anywhere from 100-150 athletes and only 2.5 coaches, we simply cannot have an XC season without some volunteer help. The volunteer instructions can be found in the link below. Please note the screening process can take up to 2 weeks to complete: https://www.bend.k12.or.us/district/organization/volunteer
We appreciate your willingness to help!
