Do we have practice if there is no school? No, We do not have practice if there isn't school. For example there will be no track practice on April 16th-18th due to school being closed for conferences.
Do you cancel practice due to weather/air quality? track practice will not get canceled for inclement weather 99.9% of the time. If there is a thunderstorm or the air quality is unhealthy, we will have indoor practice and meet in the gym. If the AQI is above 150, practice will be canceled or held indoors. We still practice in the snow, rain and wind. If there is a change in our practice plan, please check your email and/or students will hear an announcement at school.
What should I bring/wear to practice? Bring a water bottle. Athletes often pack snacks for after practice. Wear comfortable running clothes such as tights, shorts, and non-cotton shirts. Layers are important depending on the weather. Wear comfortable, high quality running shoes to prevent injury.
What happens if I get injured?
The best way to prevent injury in middle school runners is to make sure your running mileage increases slowly, you are eating enough food (including fats, protein, and carbs), not skipping meals, getting enough sleep, and wearing supportive shoes (2021 American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.)
If you are feeling injured- ice, rest, and consistent stretch/strengthening exercises are almost always recommended (as well as seeking help from a physical therapist if the pain continues). Please always check in with a coach if you become injured at practice.
When do we arrive for the meet? Athletes should plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to their start time, at the latest. Prior to each meet we will run a whole team course preview and warm up. If you are able to arrive prior to the first start time of the meet, even better!
What do I do if I cannot personally transport my athlete to a meet?
Unfortunately, the district is unable to provide transportation to our meets. Please consider reaching out to other track parents/guardians about carpooling or assisting with transportation. If that fails, reach out to Coach Wright and she'll do her best to help you make accommodations.
What does my athlete do with their school belongings during practice?
Students should put their stuff in the area assigned by the coaches - In the gym or at the track
