View Measles Exposure Guidance FAQ for
Bend-La Pine Schools Staff
This FAQ will continue to be updated as additional information and guidance becomes available
With increased measles activity in various regions of Oregon, it's a great idea to proactively ensure you are prepared in the event of a measles exposure. Measles is a highly contagious illness, and in the case of a confirmed measles case and/or exposure, staff who cannot provide proof of immunity may be excluded from work for up to 21 days per public health guidance to help prevent further spread of illness. To avoid exclusion from work, we strongly encourage all staff to locate and keep a copy of their immunization records readily accessible.
Documentation of two doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine
Laboratory evidence of immunity from a blood test called a “titer”
Documentation of a previous measles diagnosis confirmed by a healthcare provider
Birth before 1957 (individuals born before 1957 are presumed to have natural immunity because they were exposed to the virus in childhood)
Work with your healthcare provider to research your immunization records, schedule a titer-test, or update your vaccination status.
Request a copy of your immunization records from OHA
Note that OHA's ALERT Immunization Information System (IIS) is a statewide registry that records vaccinations administered in Oregon. ALERT IIS began collecting data for children in Oregon in 1996, and for adults in 2008. Once you have submitted the request with ALERT IIS, records are usually provided within 10-15 business days.
