My Research about Child Trafficking
This is one of my subtopics from my capstone paper about Child Trafficking.
Trafficking rates are going up, and it is the worst form of forced labor yet. Children are sold into sex trafficking and forced to work up to 12 hours a day, every day. As time moves forward, child trafficking is becoming more of a demand and more of a problem because of reasons like child pornography, a form of forced labor. This is why the rates for trafficking are going up, and not being stopped currently. The traffickers are able to sell and profit from the children, and by use of drugs and alcohol, they are able to enslave them for years. There is an estimate of 4.5 million victims of sex trafficking, and that number is still going up. Many times, "Indigenous populations and those who live in abject poverty are typically economically and politically marginalized; thus, most lack rights and access to basic services such as education which make them particularly vulnerable to sex trafficking" (Child Labor). This makes the traffickers have more control over children, and profit off of them more. Based on what situation children are in, such as poverty, makes them more inclined to be a victim of trafficking. Many times children are offered fake jobs such as modeling to incorporate them into trafficking. Traffickers say they will let the victim go when they pay off their debt, but in many cases, the debt is too much to handle. The rates of children being sold into trafficking keep going up despite the fact that many things are being done to stop it. Trafficking is a crucial problem in the world right now, and is one of the many factors that make up child labor.
