Our 2nd - 4th Grade curriculum uses a variety of textbooks and online tools. Our main online tool is Music Play Online by Themes and Variations. This website has many interactive lessons and activities that focus on several different aspects of music: Music History, Rhythms, Note Identification, Folk Songs, World Music, and Instrumental Music.
Starting in 4th grade, we introduce the recorder through a text book called Recorder Karate.

Our 5th Grade curriculum begins as a traditional choir class and transitions into band after our choral performance.
We start the year using Music K-8. Our main goal is to prepare the students to sing as a choir for our annual Veteran's Day Assembly.
After November, we transition into band. Our curriculum used is Tradition of Excellence Book 1. Every 5th grader at John R. Rodger elementary receives an instrument of their choosing and learns basic instrumental musicianship. The culmination of their hard works is an end of the school year concert with the Bellaire Middle School and Bellaire High School Concert Bands.
