Spelling Words

Phonics sounds & skills: ar/ar/ and or, ore /or/   When we put the /r/ sound after a vowel, it completely changes the way the vowel sounds. It makes what we call an “r-controlled”  vowel. Compound words- two words put together to make a new word. 

Irregular/High Frequency Words: Students will use words in sentences on the test.

Comprehension skill: Cause and Effect  An effect is something that happens. A cause is why it    

                                    happens. 

Conventions skill: Subject-Predicate Agreement: Subject and predicates must agree in number. 

                                  If the subject   is singular, add s to the verb. If the subject is plural, do not add s to the verb.  

Math skill: We will use the strategy of making ten to add numbers within 20.  When adding 2 one-digit numbers, we will understand the rationale for decomposing one addend to make ten.  We will use and articulate mental math strategies to add.   

Social Science/Social Studies Skills:  In Social Science,  we will perform a Performance Task in conclusion of our study of Day Patterns, where we will observe and predict the apparent location of the sun at different times of the day.  In Social Studies, we will begin the next chapter, “Louisiana as a Colony,” where we will learn about different explorers that traveled along the Mississippi River to settle in Louisiana.                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Homework: *All homework must be completed at home and turned in the next day!

Monday- Write spelling words 2 times each and Reading passage worksheet  

Tuesday- Write spelling words 2 times each and math worksheet.

Wednesday- Write spelling words 2 times and math worksheet.   

Thursday- Write spelling words 2 times each and math worksheet

Friday- ELA, Spelling, and Math Test.
