Spelling Words

Phonics sounds & skills: ee, ea, ey  The vowel team ee makes the long e sound and usually comes in the middle of a word, like in need and feet. The ee sometimes comes at the beginning of a word, like in eel.  The vowel team ea also makes the long e sound. EA usually comes in the middle of a word, like in mean and team. EA sometimes comes at the beginning of a word like in eat and each. EA sometimes comes at the end of a word like in tea and flea. The vowel team EY also makes the lone e sound. EY only comes at the end of a two-syllable word like in money and turkey.  

Irregular/High Frequency Words: Students will use words in sentences on the test.

Comprehension skill: Theme the one big idea a story is about; the meaning of a story. 

Conventions skill: Verb Tense: Different verb tenses tell what happens in the past, present or    

                                future.  Add -ed to show something happened in the past. Add will in front of the 

                                       verb to show that it will happen in the future. 

Math skill: We will write addition expressions with three addends to represent word problems.  We will find the total of three addends, using strategies such as making a ten and using doubles by grouping any two addends.  

Social Science/Social Studies Skills:  In Social Science,  we will begin our unit on Night Patterns, where we will discuss why we only see stars at night.  In Social Studies, we will continue with our study of “Louisiana as a Colony,” where we will learn that Baton Rouge is the state capital of Louisiana.  We will discuss the differences in Louisiana’s legal system.                                                                                                                                                                                                       

Homework: *All homework must be completed at home and turned in the next day!

Monday- No School MLK Day

Tuesday- Write spelling words 2 times each and math worksheet.

Wednesday- Write spelling words 2 times and math worksheet.   

Thursday- Write spelling words 2 times each and math worksheet.

Friday- ELA Spelling Test
