fourth Quarter 2021-2022

focus on visual and performing arts

The arts are transformative for the artist, make connections within a culture, and often challenge us to understand one another. Students who dabble in or delve into the arts find a creative outlet, people who share a passion, and a personal form of expression. Did you know that Beechwood students can be formally identified for Gifted and Talented Support Services in the areas of visual arts, drama, dance, instrumental music and vocal music?

In the 2021-2022 school year we have formally identified an additional nine students in vocal music, eleven students in instrumental music, two students in visual arts, one student in drama, and one in dance. Enrichment opportunities for these students include workshops with CCM faculty, master classes with the professionals at May Festival and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, as well as field trips to area arts outlets.

Do you know a student who is passionate about the arts, but isn't identified in that area? Please contact Trish Neace at trish.neace@beechwood.kyschools.us

PTSA Annual Reflections Arts Contest

Thank you to Beechwood's PTSA for participating in the National Annual Reflections Arts Contest. This allows our students to showcase their talents at the school, state, and national levels! This year's theme was "I Can Change the World By..."

Students who participate get an opportunity to explore the arts and culture, develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills and recognize themselves as artists and become more interested in the ideas and works of others. Participating in the Reflections Program gives students a chance to experiment in six art categories: literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts (including such forms as drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage), dance choreography, and film production.

Fourh Graders, Lillith Reeves and Sloane Bailey collaborated on a piece titled "A Little Kindness" and brought home a National Award of Merit in musical composition.

Congratulations Lilith and Sloane!

This IS Above and Beyond!

focus on math enrichment

Much of April was devoted to our Spring Noetic Math Challenge. Competitors in grades two through eight prepared, tested, and waited for results which arrived in early May.

A new opportunity for our seventh and eighth grade competitors was a boon to our second through sixth grade competitors. "Noetic Know-How" was a one hour collaboration between our experienced Noetic Math students and our younger students. The goal was to teach students new strategies for solving problems and to provide proven test strategies. The mentors shared their knowledge and earned an hour of service credit while completely enjoying their teaching time. The mentees showed off their skills and soaked in some new methods for success.

This memorable class of eighth graders have always advocated for their own educational growth and truly have transformed every group of teachers who have had the pleasure of teaching them! Thanks to all of you for everything you have taught us and will continue to teach us!

A special shout-out to Julian Sandberg for leading the way with this team by consistently scoring in the top ten percent in the nation throughout every Noetic Math Challenge since third grade! Julian ended his Noetic Math Challenge in fine fashion by scoring 100%! Congratulations, Julian!
