Bedford High School draws on Aristotle's Classical Argument structure to conduct argumentative essays. Starting in your sophomore year, you will be expected to conduct research, develop claims, map out counterclaims, respond with rebuttals, and develop a closing for your essay. In addition, you will also be expected to create a warrant, as well as appeal to different types of rhetoric in your junior and senior years.
According to the OWL (n.d), "Aristotle’s strategies can provide a great guide for organizing your thoughts as well as writing effective arguments, essays, and speeches" ("Classical Argument Purdue Writing Lab"
). Classical Argument structure will help you approach your project in a guided organized way, that will be achieved in steps throughout the unit.
