When Germany hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 1972, the organizers on the Olympic Committee were focused on separating the Summer Games from the previous games hosted under the Nazi Regime. Security was limited and public safety was not taken into consideration as much as what should’ve been required for such events. Security and safety in modern times at international events such as the Olympics are a result of the 1972 games. Munich 1972 was a stepping point to understand how the global community reacted to the crisis and a turning point for international sporting events. The government thought that the Munich Massacre shouldn’t have happened and the proposed changes reflected the need for reformation when it came to events on the global stage. The necessity of this was recognized and the policies implemented in the aftermath of Munich put on display where the global community had been lacking in the past and the efforts to amend the suffering of the Israelis impacted in Munich and worldwide.
