In Person Attendance
Attendance in school will be taken by 9:30am. Any student not present will then be marked absent. If a student arrives late to school they must be in school for at least half of the school day in order for it to be counted as a tardy (but present) day.
Virtual (Remote) Attendance
For students working remotely attendance will be taken at the end of the first morning meeting. Any student not present will be marked virtually absent. If later in the day the student is present and has appeared to have done most of their work the office will be notified to change their status to virtually present. Similarly, if the only work a student completes is the morning meeting, a student may be marked virtually absent.
The state guidance on attendance requires a student to be present for at least half of a school day in order to have it counted as a day a student is present.
If a student is in a hybrid cohort he or she can only join remote classrooms on their assigned days. An exception to this is shared below.
Students required to quarantine, sent home from school for covid-19 symptoms, or families following the protocol and keeping a student home because of covid-19 symptoms
If your child is home from school because of Covid-19 symptoms, awaiting Covid test results, or quarantined because of close contact with a person positive during their hybrid in school day, the family can request that the child attends school virtually if the child is healthy enough to do so. To make this request please call the main office or email beth_benoit@bedfordps.org. Beth will work with you and the teaching team to arrange for the child to learn virtually. This can take up to 24 hours to arrange. Until that arrangement is finalized a student may need to be marked absent for a day. We will work as quickly as possible but please understand that it takes the teacher some time to make sure that the child has all that is needed to participate virtually.
It is not possible to change a student’s learning model from in person to remote learning for any reason other than a covid-19 reason. If you need to travel, your child has an appointment, etc, the child will be marked absent from school. You can also bring your child to school late or dismiss early if that is necessary. Please contact the main office if you need to drop your child off at Davis after the arrival window or pick your child up before the dismissal window.
For other non-medical absences, or when a student is physically feeling too ill to work remotely they will be marked absent and will not be joining the remote students. This is necessary in order to maintain group sizes online as well as to maintain consistency for students.
We understand that working remotely presents scheduling challenges as well as technology challenges and want to work with families as circumstances arise. Attendance policies are required for state reporting and to ensure we are reaching out and supporting families that are struggling to support their child’s attendance at school (in person and remote).
