Founded on the belief that students are more than their SATs and GPAs and that colleges are more than their rankings, SCOIR is leading a revolution to transform the college admissions process from a short-term, quantitative transaction to a long-term, qualitative engagement. The goal is for students to become more reflective in this process in order to discover best fit colleges. SCOIR is a customized, secure website that supports post-secondary, college and career planning. It is designed to assist students and their parents/guardians in making informed decisions about options after high school. This online resource allows students the ability to research colleges, view statistical and historical BHS data on previous application results, build a resume, take a career interest inventory, view the schedule of college representatives visiting the high school and much more.
SCOIR is offered as a complement to the series of individual and group meetings that are available to students and families in partnership with the Counseling Department.
Some specific resources on SCOIR include:
Aptitude & Career Assessment: Unlike simple interest surveys, YouScience uncovers a student’s innate ability and matches them to careers for which their natural talents will help them excel. YouScience consists of eleven fun, game-like exercises (9 aptitude ‘brain games’, 1 interest survey and 1 personality profiler).
College Search: Allows users to enter criteria such as size, location, cost, availability of specific majors or athletic programs and a list will be provided that meets these criteria
College Lookup: Provides comprehensive information on thousands of US colleges and universities as well as non-US schools. A link to each college’s website is also provided
College Compare: Allows students to compare how their standardized testing scores and GPA fare against the colleges that they have selected
Scattergram: Provides a graphic view of application outcomes (accepted, denied, waitlisted) at specific colleges, using the GPA and SAT scores for BHS students.
