FAQ
How can I contact the librarian?
You can contact Mrs. Weller-Fahy here.
How many books can I check out and how long can I keep them?
As many as you can carry! We don’t have a hard limit on the number of books that you can take but we encourage you to only take the number that you can be responsible for. Keep the books as long as you need them (within a reasonable amount of time) but they MUST be returned by the end of the school year.
Do I need a library card to check out a book?
No, you just need to give your name. We look you up in the system, scan the book and you are good to go.
What time are you open?
The posted time for the library to open is 7:40 am but we are generally open by 7:30 and you are welcome to come to the library then. The library closes at 2:30. On early-release days, the library closes at 1:00.
How do I find a book at the library?
You can search the catalog here.
Can I use the printers in the library?
Yes, we have 2 black and white printers and 1 color printer. If you are asked for a username and password, use your school login credentials.
How do I use the library during the school day?
You can use the library in several way; with your teacher in a class, with a pass from your teacher or sub (a pass is a requirement and must be presented to the librarian as you enter the library) during break, and during FLEX.
Can I use the library during lunch? Yes but please remember there is no food allowed.
How do I sign up for FLEX in the library?
A form will be emailed generally 24 hours before FLEX. There are a limited number of spaces so check your email ASAP.
How do I access the library databases?
Library databases can be found here.
Why use the library databases instead of Google?
Google is awesome but it is an index rather than a database. That means that Google has no control over the content that it is indexing and therefore there is no guarantee as to the reliability of the sources that you are seeing with a google search. When you are conducting school research, it is easier to find reliable sources when you use the library databases. The quality of the content in the library databases is controlled and more reliable.
Do you have books for my Kindle or other reading device?
Yes. BHS has its own eBook library with books and audiobooks that you can read or listen to from your device. For most devices, add the SORA app from your app store. Find Bedford High School. Log in using your school Google account. Click send to my device. Contact Mrs. Weller-Fahy with questions.
Can I use a Chromebook in the Library?
We don't have Chromebooks in the library but we have desktops for student use.
