Title 1

Title 1 Supplemental Instruction at Memorial School

The Title 1 program is a regular education support program designed to reinforce the classroom curriculum. Title 1 support is provided “over and above“ core classroom instruction and is intended to supplement, not replace the work of the classroom teacher. Title 1 Math and Reading instructors at Memorial School work in collaboration with classroom teachers to give students in grades k - 4 extra opportunities to practice skills in a small group setting.

At Memorial School, we feel strongly that multiple opportunities to practice reading and math skills will help our students grow to become successful in reading and math. All students benefit from additional opportunities to practice these important skills. We have made a commitment to our students to provide them with as many opportunities as possible.

Eligibility for participation is based on indicators of academic performance that include standardized and curriculum-based measures as well as teacher recommendation. The Title 1 teachers meet regularly with classroom teachers to discuss student progress. Parent permission is required for participation in the program.

The Title 1 groups meet two to five times per week and the schedule is arranged so that it will not interfere with student’s language arts or math block.

Memorial School has a targeted plan that specifies program elements and design. Please click here to view the Memorial School Targeted Plan.
