13+ Scholarships are available to candidates entering Bede's Senior School the following year. Candidates from Bede's Prep School and external candidates are treated equally.
All Candidates sit papers in English, Maths, Science and Humanities. There is a further optional Languages paper available in a choice of languages (French, Spanish, German, Latin or Mandarin).
All papers are 60 minutes in length. Access arrangements (e.g. extra time, scribes) will be made available for candidates who qualify for them (please note that the 13+ Scholarships form MUST be completed by Monday 12 January to quality for access arrangements).
Candidates will also need to prepare a five minute presentation on an area of academic interest. They may use technology (e.g. Google Slides or Powerpoint) to aid them with their presentation, but they do not have to.
Candidates will also attend masterclasses and be interviewed by academic leaders.

The parents of all pupils applying for a 13+ Scholarship should complete this form by Monday 12 January.
Please note that, prior to completing this form, you should
a) decide whether your child is sitting the optional Languages paper,
b) decide on the title for their five minute academic presentation and
c) ask your child to draft a short personal statement about why they want to be a scholar, their academic interests, any notable achievements and anything else they feel is relevant to their scholarship application.
All pupils will sit one hour papers in English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities. Pupils studying a language can also choose to sit a language paper. More Information on the content of each paper and practice papers can be found below
The English scholarship paper will require students to write a single essay of literary analysis in response to previously unstudied texts. Candidates will choose to either write their essay on a poetry text or a prose extract, both of which are provided. Bede’s is not prescriptive and will look for insight, flair and a developed critical response regardless of which approach a student may take.
The Mathematics paper will consist of questions on basic techniques but also include more challenging questions. This paper will not examine topics beyond the Common Entrance Examination Syllabus. The paper is non-calculator. Candidates can practice for this paper by using harder questions from the CE syllabus.
The examination will be based on the recommended Common Entrance Syllabus and will contain Biology, Chemistry and Physics sections. Candidates can practice for this paper by using harder questions from the CE syllabus.
Pupils have a choice of sitting one of History, Geography or Religion & Philosophy.

Choice of Languages subjects are: French, German, Spanish, Latin Reading and Writing. Papers feature a range of short answer questions and a longer continuous writing section.
