TechTeam FAQs
Updated for Spring
Updated for Spring
A- Spring TechTeams start the week of April 15, on the day your TechTeam meets.
TechTeams terms coincide with school trimesters. for Spring, they will go until the end of the school year.
As with all shoots, crew is expected to stay until strike and post-production meeting are done. We try to be sensitive to younger techs who need to get home early on School Nights. If you can't stay till the we are finished, we need to know AHEAD of time.
A- The DAY of your production is - by default - super predicable. However, whether there is a shoot, as well as when or where the shoot is, tend to shift each week.
Take a look at the Shoots Calendar. It has what we plan to cover. But it's spring, and it rains, so things will change. Try your best to be flexible.
A- Along with BEC Staff, the team will help decide on what they're doing on any non-production nights. Some nights will be training, some will be helping with operations at the BEC World Headquarters, some may be field trips, and some might just be a night off.
A- Life happens. Homework pops up, blizzards blow in, and our pet lizards get sick and need extra nursing. If you're selected for a TechTeam, we'll expect you to do your best to honor your commitment through the term, but we understand that you've got a life to deal with. Just be SURE to let us know when you can't be with us, 'cuz we're counting on you!
(Broken Leg: Yep. Grandma Dies: Yep. Staying home cuz fresh cookies are coming out of the oven: Hmmmm, that’s a tough one. Maybe Ok if you bring some to Tom!)
A- We’ll give it our best go!
We’ve got 300 crew slots to fill this season, so it’ll take a fair amount of juggling to make it all fly. But hey, we want to do what makes for a good experience for you AND makes Awesome TV for our community.
Somethin’ need chanin’ up? Let us know, OK?
A- First off, you can plan your schedule ahead so life's a bit less hectic. Also, all those good things that happen in "teams" happen more... friendships deepen, skills improve, you earn the right to order "BEC Wear" sooner. You'll also advance through the ranks more quickly.
A- Yep! While TechTeams get first pick of shoots, there will still be opportunities. Some days we have multiple shoots, some shoots fall on days we don't have a TechTeam deployed, and on some shoots we need to augment our TechTeams with additional techs.
Select "shoots not covered by a regular crew", along with a TechTeam or two. We'll then invite you to the Google Calendar events, and you'll RSVP how you have been doing. This time, however, we won't send you email notifications. Otherwise your inbox would be FLOODED. The events will all appear on your Google Calendar, and you can RSVP from there. If something isn't working right with this, let us know!
A- Yes, we'd LOVE that, and so will you! You're welcome to apply to be on as many TechTeams as you want. Remember that most sports teams and other activities meet every day for either a practice or a game, so once or a even a couple times a week at BEC-TV is no stretch, right? Feel free to step it up. Everybody wins!
A- When you complete the TechTeam Sign up, indicate your preferences and availability. There will be the first ever BEC-TV "TechDraft" as staff carefully crafts a set of well rounded crews. We'll post and email the info as soon as it's decided.
As we balance out the crews, one thing we’ll factor in is how quickly you responded. The faster you get your requests in, the more likely you’ll get what you ask for.
--Check out the options of different regular crews and find something that fits your schedule and interests.
-- Open the link for the Winter Crew Sign Up Google Form.
-- Rank each option with 1 for most wanna be on and 4 for Nope.
-- You must choose at least 1 regular crew or 3 shoots that are not slated for coverage by regular crews.
A- No, that form only indicates interest. We will try our best to get you on TechTeams you want, but we can't promise anything. Everyone applying will be on at least one team.
We will not put you on anything you select 4 for.
A- No, just like always, everyone of the crews will have a chance to try new things and develop a variety of production skills.
A- While BEC-TV staff will always have the final say, we encourage growth in leadership at BEC. It’s very likely that one of the persons on the regular crew will be named as student producer.
A- Sure! When you apply, indicate who you'd like to be teamed with, and we'll do our best to make that happen. If you've got a friend who's been thinking of joining BEC-TV, there's still time to sign up, and apply to be part of your TechTeam.
A- About 700 pounds of wood
A- Bringing Tom fresh baked cookies is ALWAYS in order. We can't ever guarantee anything, but getting him in a good mood sure won't hurt!
A- Really. Is that what you want to do?
IF it is, then yes, we DO have a minimum amount of participation.
Join either one TechTeam or a minimum of 3 individual shoots (not covered by the Regular crews) over the course of the season. One a month? You can handle that!
A- Well golly, then we’ll need to assume something happened to you and you need help.
We’ll probably call out the National Guard or track you down with a human sniffing aardvark, who’s tracking your scent from a dirty sock from under your bed.
So please save us the trouble and respond. Sign up. Or Bench yourself for the season. Or be honest if you’re just plain done with BEC. We promise not to judge… Unless you don’t let us know at all. Then we get all judgy-to-the-max.
