Hack-San-Juan 2023 is a creative competition where teams of 2-3 people develop innovative solutions to different challenges through different programming languages.

The goal of this hackathon is to solve challenges on critical thinking and reading comprehension over the course of the event and create a fully functioning usable software or hardware product by the end of the event.

Teams are encouraged to be interdisciplinary and consist of coders, designers, subject-matter experts, project managers, communication experts, etc where participants have different skills and expertise. But all teams should have at least 1 BSIS student currently enrolled in Batangas Eastern Colleges.

Having in mind that the main target group of Beacon Civic Hackathon are College students (18-28 yrs old), Hack-San-Juan team is shaping the format to:

2-days Hackathon including 15-hour on-the-spot prototyping of campaign projects; 1-hour networking dinner and 8-hour teams’ presentation preparation; pitching in front of a jury session and award ceremony.
Students who register for the hackathon should form teams of 2 – 3 people with at least 1 enrolled BSIS student of BEC per group. A student, teacher, government employee, BEC employee, and other San Juanenos can join the team.
Target number of groups for the Hack-San-Juan 2023: A Beacon Civic Hackathon is 15 or more.

Objectives

It is a way to inspire communities and to promote creativity, cooperation , and innovative thinking for designing solutions to different challenges.
It is one of the best ways for participants to pick up new skills working on a project, for networking, career orientation.
The advanced technologies nowadays change the way of collaboration between the academe, public authorities, businesses, users and communities. A hackathon stimulates design of solutions to specific problems/situations providing one-time investment.
It’s a good way also for educational institutions to stimulate innovations by framing a problem with no instructions how to solve it; defining an appropriate award in order to attract more participants who may apply different approaches offering the authorities respective solutions.
The local sponsors may become co-owners and co-creators of the innovative solutions.
