Coach Dan Neeway has been a part of Sunset Cross Country since the 2005 season. He has enjoyed coaching many champions - league and state, team and individual, on and off the course - but he will remind anyone that he would rather coach good people than good athletes any day. He's been blessed to coach many who match both descriptions. You can find Mr Neeway teaching math at Sunset on school days and as a fixture of the Cedar Mill community with his family when he isn't.
Coach Ellie Rozendaal joined Sunset Cross Country in 2014 and has been its heart and soul ever since. She asks for the best from each and every person she coaches, modeling courage and resiliency with her own actions. She loves teenagers and believes in the inherent goodness of everyone. Ms Rozendaal teaches photography at Sunset and demonstrates her mastery of the subject by capturing the beauty of each season from behind her own lens.
Coach Christie Cesar has been coaching young runners in our community for many years and became a member of the Sunset coaching staff in 2023. With her own history of high-level competitive running, she brings wisdom and perspective of the sport that she shares with every runner. Dr Cesar teaches biology at the University of Portland and is the proud mother of three Apollos.
Coach Ryan Beil ran XC and track in both high school and college in the upper Midwest. He also has experience as a coach, having coached high school distance runners before fatherhood had him take a hiatus. Coach Beil now coaches his favorite high school team, and has been everyone's favorite coach since he joined the staff in 2024. Mr Beil is also a teacher at Rock Creek Elementary.Â
