Patterns Chemistry

COVID-19 Distance Learning (DL) Resources

Our Patterns Chemistry development team of teacher leaders has been working hard through the spring and summer of 2020 to develop distance learning versions of the Patterns Chemistry units. Between March and May they released the below Distance Learning versions of units 4, 5 and 6, as well as paper packets that can be printed for students who do not have access to technology at home. Below are the distance learning version of units 1-7. The distance learning units can be used in either a fully online or hybrid school model. For schools fully in person, the original Patterns Chemistry unit plans can be found in the Patterns Chemistry Open Access Google Folder.

Patterns Chemistry is an instructional resource for a year-long high school introductory chemistry course. It meets many of the physical science standards from the Next Generation Science Standards, as well as some earth science standards.

Through scientific inquiry, engineering design, and critical thinking, students discover and apply patterns in major Chemistry topics such as atomic structure, periodic trends, chemical reactions, and chemical bonding. Earth science topics relating to weather and climate in the context of chemistry are also explored. An important aim of the course is to challenge and further develop students’ problem solving skills, scientific literacy and communication skills.
