This fair is an opportunity for our middle school students to share their science research and engineering projects with professionals in the field and get feedback on their work; it also serves to determine who goes on to the Northwest Science Expo (NWSE), our regional fair. It is a celebration of STEM in Beaverton! Each school has the opportunity to send their top projects from each category to the BSD Qualifying fair.
NWSE Regional Fair: 10 projects from EACH middle school program will be selected to compete at the Northwest Regional Science Expo. To qualify for this state level fair, projects are selected from the BSD Qualifying Science Expo on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The BSD fair serves to support each participating middle school in identifying the top 10 projects from their school to send to the NWSE regional fair (in this system, our Summa programs count as a separate “school”, e.g. Stoller and Summa Stoller each have 10 spots). We are also able to nominate up to 10% of our students to apply to the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (JIC) international fair. Additional slots are offered to school clubs that serve historically underrepresented students.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (JIC) national fair (formerly Broadcom Masters) application deadline will be in mid-June, 2026. Important information for this fair is linked here.
