Wondering what is going on in class daily? Use the agenda to help spark a more detailed conversation with your child!
Each day, students will fill start their day filling out the agenda as a daily to-do list. Throughout the time that they are in my class, they will refer back to the agenda and check off the items that have been completed. Before transitioning to their next class, they will highlight any items that haven't been completed. Highlighted items may need to be completed as homework depending on the due date. Sometimes, you will see a strike through of an item in the agenda. This means that we didn't get to it that day and will come back to it later.
When having a conversation with your child about the day, the agenda is a great visual cue to start that discussion. Encourage your child to review it to tell you what went on in their day. Not only will this promote a livelier conversation but it will help your child build better memory connections with what they are learning and help them to develop time-management skills.
Social Studies:
THEME: REGIONS AND PEOPLE OF THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE
In grade five, students study the Western Hemisphere (North and South America), its geographic features, early history, cultural development and economic change. Students learn about the early inhabitants of the Americas and the impact of European exploration and colonization. The geographic focus includes the study of contemporary regional characteristics, the movement of people, products and ideas, and cultural diversity. Students develop their understanding of the relationship between markets and available resources.
