5th Grade Class Expectations:
Respect is a word that will be heard often in our classrooms. Respecting one’s self, others and the environment are key elements in creating a safe and comfortable learning environment for all students. We feel it is also very important for students to take responsibility for their learning and to be active members in classroom decision-making. For these reasons, we will use the 4 Shaw Paws as our classroom rules as well.
Completed & Graded Work
Completed and graded work will be returned via the student’s red take-home folder, and/or Google Classroom. Grades may be monitored on Progress Book and will be updated every 2-3 weeks per district policy.
Communication
Classroom updates and important communication will be conducted primarily via email. Occasionally, you will also receive communication via the red take-home folder. Please take time to fill out our online 5th grade parent/guardian survey. The survey can be found by clicking on or scanning the QR code found below in the REMINDERS section. Once we have received all of the parent/guardian surveys, we will compile a distribution list to use when sending email communication.
Morning Snack:
During Block #1, we will take time for a morning snack. Please be sure your child is bringing a healthy single serving snack to eat each day. Please no large sized snacks. Please be aware that we have students with food sensitivities, so we have PEANUT AND TREE NUT FREE classrooms. Please NO SNACKS WITH NUTS. PLEASE NO CANDY or GUM.
Classroom Drinks:
Students may bring in a water bottle filled with WATER ONLY to use during class each day. NO carbonated or sugary drinks, mix-ins or glass bottled drinks please.
Birthday Treats (No Food Please):
Birthdays are very special days. We welcome birthday treats, however, if you intend to bring a birthday treat, please make sure that it is NOT FOOD. As stated above, we have many students with food sensitivities. Some ideas for alternatives to food treats are: pencils, erasers, small toys, pens, etc. Before sending in birthday treats, please contact your child’s teacher regarding class size.
Once again, we are very excited about working with you and your child. A critical part of your child’s success at school relies upon us working together as a team to create the best possible learning experience for your child. Please feel free to contact us here at Shaw. E-mail is the best way to contact us.
We are going to have a wonderful year together!
Sincerely,
The 5th Grade Team
